Baccarat Strategy
The game of Baccarat is one of pure luck. The players and bank have almost the same chances of winning (44.6% to 45.8%) and since the outcome of the next hand doesn't depend on the results of the last hand the outcome of a hand is unpredictable. This makes developing a system to help you win more frequently impossible.

There are however some things to keep in mind when playing Baccarat.

Don't:
Bet on a tie. This bet while paying off at 8 to 1 is considered one of the worst wagers at the casino with a house edge of over 14%. Some casinos offer a payoff of 9 to 1, this is better but still leaves the house an edge of 4.5%.

When playing Mini-Baccarat don't bet on every hand. The speed with which the game can be played can result in you betting as much or more than you would have at the big table. Some players forgo Mini-Baccarat in favour of regular Baccarat they like the slow pace and refined atmosphere found at the regular Baccarat table. The losses over a given time may be the same. They see no difference between a large number of small losses or a few larger losses.

Believe in streaks or hot players. The odds of winning or losing the next hand are almost the same and the outcome of each hand is independent of the results of the last hand. One common belief is that any streak cannot continue and that it is more likely to come to an end the longer it continues. People think that if the player has won five times in a row then the chances of him/her winning again is somehow reduced. This is not the case. The next hand is independent of the last hand so the odds of winning the next hand are the same as winning the first hand, about even.

Try to count cards. While a study found that there was a small advantage to such a system it was very small and didn't occur very often. The difficulty in keeping track of the cards wasn't worth the effort as the potential gains were insignificant.

Do:
Bet on the house. The advantage is small, less than 0.5%, but real and you might as well have the advantage working for you rather than against you.

Shop around the casinos to see if one of them is offering a better commission than the standard 5%. Some casinos do and this lowers the house edge to less than one percent. Better odds don't exist anywhere else at the casino.

Get a player's card from the casino and use it. When you do you may become eligible for complimentary services and/or meals depending on such things as the amount you wager. This will help to offset any losses you incur while playing.
